The FARMS Community Kitchen in Damariscotta is open, and we are eager to have classes of students from your school learn to cook in our fine new facility.
The Community Kitchen is a space for people of all ages to gather, learn about cooking techniques, and prepare and eat healthy, local food together. The goal of the Kitchen is to offer solutions to health, economic, and environmental concerns in a fun, inclusive and interesting way. We have set up a program to enable schools to send classes of students to the Community Kitchen to learn how to peel, slice and dice, roast, bake, simmer or stew, and then share in eating seasonal, nutritious food. Hands-on prepping, sampling and tasting are key to developing early healthy habits.
We are aware of budget constraints and would like to offer the following menu of class options for the current school year. Perhaps parents or grandparents would be willing to sponsor their child’s class for an event in the Kitchen.
$40.00 – one 90-minute cooking class
$114.00 – package of three 90-minute cooking classes
$324.00 – package of nine 90-minute cooking classes
$420.00 – package of twelve 90-minute cooking classes and healthy food-related activities, plus one teacher workshop and/or staff meeting
We hope you will consider including FARMS Kitchen Classes in your budget for the 2016-2017 school year. Another source of funding could be a Maine Ag in the Classroom Grant http://www.agclassroom.org/me/programs/grants.htm.
To schedule a class, please call the FARMS Kitchen at 563-1161 and leave a message or email our Youth Program Director, Karen Kleinkopf, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
